Isadore Efron Home

Address: 923 Laurens St (now 139 Laurens St NW)

Timeframe: Around 1927 – Around 1976

Current Occupant: Carriage House Inn

Isadore Efron purchased this property around 1927 and used it for both his business and personal residence. The property included his garage & taxi service as well as a boarding house.

The 1930 census shows Isadore living here with his wife Dena, his mother Ida Surasky Efron and his younger sister Lillian. The 1940 census show Isadore living here with Dena and daughter Joan. Isadore put the property up for sale when he closed the business around 1976; he passed away in 1980.

The property is now the site of The Carriage House Inn. It is believed the warehouse for car storage (in the rear of the image below) was initially converted into suite rooms until that building was taken down as part of a redevelopment of the property in 2014.
